Someday Baby....live?

Why hasn't Bob Dylan ever played Someday Baby live? I don't know, but check out this version:

I’m absolutely obsessed with Someday Baby from 2006’s Modern Times. First of all, I have gone on record with Rob Kelly Creative, many times, that Modern Times is my favorite and the best of the “Jack Frost” produced Bob Dylan albums (pre-Rough & Rowdy Ways…maybe, but that’s another story). Someday Baby, along with Thunder On The Mountain, and Rollin’ & Tumblin’ are in my top 3 for the album (What can I say? I love when Bob Dylan sings the blues).

When Dylan’s catalogue finally came to iTunes, it was done in conjunction with the promotion of Modern Times. And if you read Walter Isaacson’s book about Steve Jobs, you’ll learn that this was a huge deal for Jobs. He loved Bob Dylan, was obsessed with Bob Dylan, might’ve even wanted to be Bob Dylan. So much so, that he dated Joan Baez.

But why hasn’t Dylan played it live? I’ve seen Bob 40 times in concert. Many of those between 2006-2012, always praying tonight would be the night. It never was. And as I like to joke on my podcast, maybe he just hasn’t played….yet. 😉

Well, for whatever reason I went on a random search looking for Someday Baby. It’s almost as if I don’t believe Bob Dylan never played it live. Anyway, I stumbled on some really fun covers, but the one that stood out to me was by Canadian indie pop superstar, “Feist (real name, Leslie Feist).” You might remember her from her 2007 hit song “1234,” or from appearances on Sesame Street and The Muppets (that’s where the people in my house know her from).

Well as it turns out, on May 9, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall, at a show called “Dark Was The Night Live” Feist closed her 4 song set with this still relatively new Bob Dylan song. Just Feist and an electric guitar. She even got some of that “up-singing” down.
